This group of 16 is covering their tracks the old fashioned way - the last guy in line is dragging a tree branch behind him. It doesn't take superior tracking skills to recognize this trick, but it does make it difficult to see how many people were in the group. Their logic may be that if it can't be determined that they are a large group, it is less likely that anyone who cuts their trail will decide to track them.
